Solid state hard drive.
Completely silent, random reads are as fast as sequential reads... winner winner, chicken dinner.
not quite sure what that means? a silent hard drive, and it reads stuff fast?

Yeah, more or less. It's good for lots of small files that need to be read randomly, like what happens when Windows boots up, for example!
I'm going to have this as my Windows drive with all my applications on, and use my 500gb for documents and music and stuff.
It was £103.

How big is the storage space on it?

We installed XP pro on my SSD on tuesday, with a Via C3 1.2ghz processor and 1gb of RAM.
When Windows booted up the little loading bar didn't even have time to get from one side to the other and it was on the desktop. Probably 10 seconds max from the beginning of the status bar to the desktop.

30 seconds isnt worth my £100

Don't roll your eyes at me.
PDS was just an example file, it showed that all apps opened up quicker.
Seems to me, your windows might load an extra 10 seconds quicker, but then you're not getting an benefit as apps and documents won't open any quicker as they're on the older Hard drive.
So essentially you paid £100+ for Windows to load 10 seconds quicker.

After all you put me through
You'd think I'd despise you
But in the end I wanna thank you
'Cause you made me that much stronger

Didn't you read? All of my applications and Windows are on the SSD.
In the real world the difference is incredible. I'm using it right now and the difference is absolutely unreal. I didn't imagine it to be anywhere near this quick. I've just opened an MP3 and Media Player literally opens as quickly as I've double-clicked on it, and the song plays instantly.
I'm not even kidding how much difference it's made.
Ah, OK.
Old hard drive, opening an MP3 in Media Player: 2, maybe 3 seconds, then another 1 second to start playing.
New SSD, opening an MP3 in Media Player: Fades onto the screen instantly, playback begins immediately.
I can't really describe the two, this is just insanely quick and snappy. I can't describe how nice it is to use now, it's just really really nice having things happen NOW, not in a few seconds.
