a level 3 = privileged members
where they can delete posts, in threads they create, in certain sections of the forum. (Gaming and Hardware/Software Discussion)
stops moderators having to prune threads, and allows the user to keep the thread under control.

No, he said 'cron job it is then'
as aaron said it was the only way, to get what i suggested.
This is how i feel the moderating/user numbers should be..
1. New Member
When a member is a level 1, they can only perform basic forum tasks, and only see normal sections of the forum.
2. Regular Member
When a member is a level 2, they can only perform basic forum tasks, but can now see hidden sections of the forum
3. Privilaged Member
When a member is a level 3, they are trusted by the admin, and can now perform basic moderation abilitys on their own threads in certain sections (Delete Post) and can also see hidden sections of the forum
4. Local Moderator
Can perform basic moderation abilitys on certain sections of the forum. (Delete/Edit Post, Warn/Ban User)
5. Global Moderator
Can perform every moderation ability on all sections of the forum. (Delete/Edit Post, Warn/Dewarn/Ban/Unban User)
6. Teh OverLord Aaron
By Privileged member, i mean that a user can now moderate there own thread which they have created (only in certain sections, Hardware/Software Discussion and Gaming Discussion). Where they can only Delete a users post. This allows the user to stay in control of there own threads, without the use of a moderator stepping in.
What difference will it make? Aaron will still control teh everything, and i think ive been doing a decent job the way things are? adding more mods will make things more confusing.
The situation at the moment, is that only one moderator is appointed at any one time, which results in alot of posts/threads not being moderated, or it takes time until they are.
Also alot of complaint about threads being ruined, b33f being everywhere, and general shit-ness which the forum has become.
Now this is what i propose, which should completly get rid of the situation
Level 1: Basic Member
When a user signs up to the forum, they are automatically a basic member, they are only able to perform basic functions such as post inside threads, and create new threads. They are also only able to view basic areas of the forum, they are excluded from posting inside the announcements area.
Level 2: Regular Member
This is done automatically, the admin no-longer has control over this promotion. When a user reachs a certain amount of time online, maybe 1-2days. They are promoted. They can do the same functions as the basic member, but can now view more detailed sections of the forum.
Level 3: Privileged Member
When the Admin or Global Moderators see fit, they can promote Regular Member's to become Privileged Members. They can perform the same tasks and view the same forums as Regular Member's. However, they are now able to delete (only delete, not edit) posts which are in threads which they created in the Hardware/Software/Gaming Discussion sections. This will allow them to keep the threads they created on-topic, and without b33f (if they wish).
Level 4: Local Moderator
These are appointed by the Administrator of the forum (and Global Moderator, if the admin see's fit), to moderate certain sections of the forum. They can edit/delete posts/delete threads in the designated section, and move threads in the designated section, to other parts of the forum. They cannot warn users, they must go to a global moderator or admin (in the staff discussion) to get a user warned or banned.
Level 5: Global Moderator
This is appointed by the administrator of the forum, and can moderate the whole forum. They can edit/delete posts, move threads, delete threads in the whole forum and can also warn/ban users.
Level 6: Admin
Needs no explanation. Can appoint Privileged Members, Local Moderators and Global Moderators.
I'm a one man team with someone who's interested in helping who doesnt really have much experience.
You'd think I'd despise you
But in the end I wanna thank you
'Cause you made me that much stronger

Well ye it would be cool to let jack moderator the hardware forum but its just not that easy to impliment.
no, i didnt mean that you dont listen.
Do Level 3 first. The Privileged members can moderate their own threads in the hardware/software/gaming discussion. Where they can only delete posts not edit.
So if i made a GT-4 thread, and russy came in and said 'meh' i could delete that post :P
1) Regular member (edit own posts)
2) Privladges member (edit own posts, access level 2 forums)
3) Moderator (to certain forums set by the admin)
4) Global moderator (moderates everything)
5) Admin (simple)
You'd think I'd despise you

If i get to be the global moderator, id be all for it. But aaron's right, it will take a metric assload of coding to pull that off.
2) Regular member (edit own posts, access level 2 forums)
3) Privileged Member (edit own posts, access to level 2 forums, can edit any post in threads they create in hardware/software/gaming dicussion)
4) Moderator (to certain forums set by the admin)
5) Global moderator (moderates everything)
6) Admin (simple)
Put it this way, lets say teamxbox implimented users being able to edit there own threads and replies within it.
Just imagine how ruined it'd be within minutes.

lol ok you your going "ooo wa what if wugga gets loads of members" and theres every member editing their own thead. chaos! it wouldnt work, what would be the point of mods?

I'm no good at ideas. I'm more of a "give me an idea and I will code it" kinda guy.
You should know then that its virtually impossible to save whatever they scratch.

It would be hard to do in a website sort of environment, without having access to the server so I can write and compile programs written in C that would be able to do it.
