How does one get free brakes?
My MOT is due this week, I shall go document the damage Ive done to my car since I got it.
The wrap I put on is coming off, going to book my mot for Thursday. Get the light fixed and new tires IF theres nothing else major need doing. Otherwise I might aswell sink the money into a better car.

One gets free brakes by knowing the right people.
That rear light will fail an MOT.
To be honest, any car you have will need money spending on it. If you bought a different car, chances are it would need something doing to it.
Better the devil you know and all that.
In fact, if I were a cop, I'd pull you over for that rear light. Get it fixed. You shouldn't be waiting for your MOT to fix these things.
Bear in mind that any time you step on the brakes or indicate, it's going to look like you've put it in reverse because the light will be white.

Anywho, if it turns out its just the light that needs fixing, ill get it fixed, if its alot more, its scrapped.

The reason Kwik Fit will try and sell you a cat is that they make a lot of markup on them, and they can sell yours as scrap platinum for about £50. They will try it on with anyone running a fleet car or anyone that looks like they have no clue about cars and a wallet full of cash. In reality there's probably not a lot wrong with it other than the plates inside have become dislodged.
If it fails, I think you have a few days to get it fixed and have a re-test. Let me know what it fails on and I might be able to sort you out. A rear light isn't a problem.
